Xythos Expands OEM Partnerships

Blackboard and SAS Extend Agreements with Content Management Pioneer

San Francisco, CA – March 5, 2007 – Xythos Software, a leading developer of Basic Content Services solutions, today announced that it has completed agreements with Blackboard Inc. and SAS to extend their OEM licenses of the company’s WebFile Server content management platform. Both Xythos customers have reached multi-year agreements with the company to include its technology within key applications of their core product lines.

The rapid growth of unstructured content is forcing application developers to upgrade systems to store and share it while maintaining its context within business processes. Integrated content management solutions can help customers more easily access, manage and share information within familiar application environments, helping to reduce training and support costs. Academic institutions and businesses are beginning to gain advantage from these solutions by improving organizational responsiveness and reducing risk with unified views of business data and content, as well as easier ways to share intelligence.

According to Gartner, “Increasingly, content management software is being integrated with other mission-critical applications to raise companies' productivity.” 1

Xythos’ WebFile Server technology is integrated within the Blackboard Content System™, which is part of the Blackboard Academic Suite™. The Blackboard Content System is designed to help faculty and students securely share files, manage e-learning content, and develop e-Portfolios. At SAS, Xythos technology is integrated within a variety of enterprise applications including the SAS® Enterprise BI Server, SAS Information Delivery Portal and SAS Model Manager.

SAS Model Manager uses Xythos’ WebDAV-based technology to manage large collections of analytic models in a secure manner, to promote efficient collaboration among users while sharing analytic models and offers versioning and configuration management capabilities for auditing and compliance reasons. Blackboard clients such as the University of Louisville leverage the Blackboard Content System so that faculty can manage e-Portfolios for tenure requirements and share content between courses, while students can use it for potential employment opportunities, graduation and course requirements.

Xythos WebFile Server technology was developed from the beginning to be used as an embedded content management platform. Due to its standards-based architecture, including support for WebDAV, JSR 170 and SOA, customers have benefited from its ease of integration and proven flexibility. The fact that all Xythos product features include customizable APIs also helps get developer’s new web applications to market more quickly.

Xythos OEM offerings also include its Xythos Drive which has been licensed by customers such as Oracle and SAP to bundle together with their own web portals and content systems. “Content management integration is gaining interest as customers begin to deliver more solutions as web services,” observed Gary Zuckerman, Xythos vice president of OEM Sales. “After developers have struggled with open source projects or home-grown systems they begin to appreciate the benefits that a purpose-built OEM content management platform can offer,” he added.
