LEADING TELECOM PROVIDER BUILDS CONTENT MANAGEMENT SERVICE WITH XYTHOS

Linux-based solution helps meet security and scalability requirements

San Francisco, CA – August 15, 2006– At Linux World San Francisco, Xythos Software, a leading developer of Basic Content Services solutions, announced the selection of its WebFile Server platform by new customer Iceland Telecom (Siminn) to create a new country-wide web storage and collaboration service. Xythos technology is well suited to high volume data center environments typical of large ISPs because it allows them to capitalize on best of breed infrastructure investments including the proven scalability provided by Linux. Siminn joins a growing list of Xythos customers including Wells Fargo, International Data Corporation and NASA which have deployed its technology to help improve enterprise-wide content security and simplify document collaboration.

Iceland is commonly rated among the most sophisticated countries in the world in terms of information and communication technology. Iceland has the highest penetration of broadband in the world. 70 percent of all households have ADSL connections and 20 percent have IPTV, another per capita world record. Síminn (Iceland Telecom) provides telecommunication, mobile and Internet services to private and corporate clients in Iceland, including fixed and mobile subscriptions, Broadband/DSL solutions, Live TV/Video on Demand  and Centrex network solutions.

On the verge of launching a first-of-its-kind service built on Xythos WebFile Server, Siminn is providing online data storage and file sharing for customers seeking to safely store, manage and share content - including digital photos.

“Our customers want to safely and securely access and store their digital photos - so they can share them with family and friends,” said Thor Jes Thorisson, VP ICT Division of Siminn. “We have created a friendly interface that works with a photo application and is layered on top of Xythos WebFile Server. This new application allows our users to organize their digital photos in secure albums, view photos as thumbnails or slideshows and also caption them. After recently completing our Beta we are now offering this service to the around 50,000 users in mid-August. We are expecting an uptake of at least 10% of these customers the first year,” he remarked.

“A flexible and easy to integrate platform is a fundamental requirement for introducing collaborative web services in distributed organizations today”, commented Ed Miller, CEO of Xythos. “The combination of Linux and Xythos technology provides the foundation for delivering scalable solutions for a wide variety of application requirements – from secure research collaboration to low-bandwidth content delivery. Xythos is honored to be able to provide the technology and services to support bold initiatives at organizations such as Siminn.”

The Xythos WebFile Server platform supports federated Linux server environments and provides unmatched integration and data storage flexibility making it ideal for IT shops needing to mix Linux technology with legacy systems as well as data centers serving mixed client system communities. Commercial and enterprise software developers have been attracted to Xythos as a result of its standards based Java architecture, open API’s and robust support for the collaborative WebDAV protocol extension to HTTP. This has allowed customers to rapidly integrate basic content management functionality together with enterprise applications and portals and introduce document and file management web services with minimal user training or business process disruption.

Xythos will be featuring its latest Linux compatible applications and technology platform at Booth #209 at Linux World San Francisco from August 15 -17, 2006. Linux developers can also access complete Xythos evaluation software, application plug-ins and related resources at:
