XYTHOS 5.0 PRODUCT SUITES ADDRESS GROWING DEMAND FOR IMPROVED CONTENT SECURITY, EASE OF USE AND INTEGRATION
New Releases Announced at AIIM 2005 Offer Integrated Document Classification, Workflow, and Enhanced User Interface
May 17, 2005
Philadelphia, PA, May 17, 2005 - Xythos Software, the leading developer of simple document and file management software, today announced the introduction of three new product suites that provide both enhanced application functionality and platform flexibility. Xythos now offers market-specific applications designed to address the respective needs of commercial, government and academic institutions -- as well as a robust developer platform.
The Xythos Enterprise Document Management Suite 5.0 will help commercial and government organizations better access and share content throughout its life-cycle; from creation, to collaboration, to its final disposition with integrated document classification and retention schedules helping improve document security without imposing unnecessary complexity. The Xythos Digital Locker Suite 5.0 offers functionality tailored specifically to the collaborative needs of the academic community while improving the security of all content shared on and off campus. The Xythos WebFile Development Suite 5.0 provides an open standards-based content management platform ideally suited to the needs of application developers who require a highly customizable and scalable solution designed to be integrated within their own applications and projects without the cost or complexity traditional ECM systems.
"More than 1.5 million users at organizations around the world depend upon Xythos to help them manage and share their documents and files. Our new product suites will help them extend the benefits of easy to use, web based document management throughout the organization and deeper within collaborative processes which they depend upon." said Ed Miller, Xythos CEO. "Xythos customers have recognized that a single solution for document sharing, classification and workflow also assists them in responding to increased content security and compliance requirements," he added.
The new Xythos product suites address a market that has evolved beyond the traditional boundaries of document management and now includes a diverse set of content collaboration and integration requirements. In fact, opinion leaders within the industry have identified a growing need within organizations for easy to use, yet comprehensive document management solutions as well. "A document management system is necessary when you need to track versions of documents, route documents through a predefined process and provide secure access to individual documents. Lightweight document management and collaboration-centric solutions provide much more functionality than traditional document management products but less than enterprise content management product suites," observed Karen Shegda, Gartner, Inc. Research Director, Enterprise Content Management.
The Xythos Enterprise Document Management Suite 5.0 uniquely combines core document library services including advanced document level access control together with web-enabled document classification and retention schedules delivering a single solution for managing and storing documents and records. Automated document classification helps organizations more easily enforce document retention policies without imposing unnecessary restrictions upon their employees or requiring them to move content from one application to another as a document's status changes. The suite also introduces integrated basic workflow features including document review and approval features designed to facilitate increased demands to web enable a variety business of business processes and reduce document processing costs and time requirements.
The Xythos WebFile Development Suite is already the content management platform for SAS9 and the Blackboard Enterprise Suite. The new 5.0 release has been enhanced with additional security management and application integration features designed to appeal to the developer community.. The introduction of JSR 168 portlets will ease enterprise portal integration while new LDAP management features improve user search authentication and system-wide security. Each of the improvements added to the WebFile Development Suite will help developers more easily integrate web-enabled content management within their applications and projects.
The Xythos Digital Locker Suite is also garnering early support on academic campuses where it's being put to use to improve the collaborative learning process. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison where Xythos solutions are already used by more than 12,000 of its faculty and students the university's Division of Information Technology (DoIT) has been testing the new Digital Locker and expects to soon enhance its document and file management services offered at the campus. "As a Beta tester of the new product, I appreciate the thought that went into its development. The Digital Locker's many new features will make it even easier for colleagues to conduct and collaborate on inter-institutional research anywhere in the world," stated Cathy Riley, technical consultant with DoIT at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
The Enterprise Document Manager Suite, Digital Locker Suite, WebFile Development Suite are available immediately. Upgrade programs are also available for current Xythos customers and information about these programs is available by contacting your Xythos representative.
