XYTHOS ANNOUNCES NEW HIGHER EDUCATION CUSTOMERS

A dozen more universities select Xythos as their Internet file management solution

San Francisco, CA, August 25, 2004 - Xythos Software, the leading developer of simple document and file management software, today announced that it has added another dozen universities to its growing list of higher education customers. Included among the new Xythos customers are CUNY, Harvard Law School, Northeastern University, New York University, University of Pennsylvania's Wharton Business School, University of Texas at El Paso, University of Wisconsin at Madison and Milwaukee, and Yale University. Each of these customers chose Xythos to provide secure campus-wide file management and collaboration solutions for faculty, student or administrative personnel.

Now serving more than 500,000 licensed education users, Xythos' WebFile Server software is becoming the standard method for faculty and students to safely access and share documents and files both on and off campus. Medical schools and research institutions have also adopted Xythos to better protect sensitive information which they exchange across public networks as a means of avoiding the potential risks associated with email attachments. Xythos software's ability to support a wide variety of server and client system environments has helped make it a popular choice at the nation's campuses where just about every type of computing device shows up and open standards support has become a basic requirement to allow everyone to work safely together.

Joining the growing list of Xythos customers in the Boston area, Northeastern University recently selected Xythos to support the collaborative needs of 25,000 of its users. "The university supports thousands of faculty, staff and students who need a safe and easy way to access and share files no matter where they happen to be," said Rick Mickool, Executive Director for Information Services. "We chose Xythos to provide a convenient, university-wide file sharing solution that could also help better protect all of our user's data no matter what kind of computer they are using."

Xythos has recognized the unique value it can provide today's distributed campus environments and continues to work closely with university customers to improve the user's experience and campus network security. "We are excited that more colleges and universities are choosing Xythos to address their collaborative needs," said Edward Miller, CEO of Xythos. "We are also pleased to see Xythos technology becoming a key component of campus computing services and are eager to help make these environments as productive and safe as they can be," he added.

Xythos has also leveraged its strength in higher education to quickly address adjacent markets including the federal government, healthcare and medical research. Xythos WebFile Server software has recently been selected by the United States Department of Defense to perform document management functions within its latest release of the Defense Collaboration Tool Suite (DCTS) and Xythos solutions are also being deployed in research hospitals across the country such as UCLA Medical School and New York City Health and Hospital Corp.

Xythos technology is also becoming the choice of application developers seeking simple solutions for integrated document management. Xythos technology is an integrated component of the SASŪ Enterprise Business Intelligence Server offering, including the newly released SASŪ9.
