DEFENSE INFORMATION SYSTEMS AGENCY SELECTS XYTHOS
Department of Defense Employees Worldwide to Benefit from Xythos WebFile Server
San Francisco, CA, June 21, 2004 - Xythos Software, the leading developer of simple document and file management software, today announced that the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), a Department of Defense (DoD) combat support agency, has selected Xythos' WebFile Server for the DoD's latest release of the Defense Collaboration Tool Suite (DCTS).
DISA's DCTS is a flexible, commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS)-based application providing interoperable, synchronous and asynchronous collaboration capability to the DoD's combatant commands, military services and agencies. The DCTS program identifies, fields and sustains a dynamic set of evolving standard collaboration tools that connect the DoD and the intelligence community; these tools enhance crisis and deliberate planning, vertically and horizontally, across operational theaters and other domains. The DCTS program thus provides simultaneous access to real-time operational, tactical and administrative information. Using Xythos' technology, the newest version of the DCTS will improve how users can concurrently access and share content in a secure web-enabled environment from hundreds of DoD locations.
"DISA anticipates a significant increase in DCTS capability, due to the inclusion of Xythos," commented Allen R. Hynes, DCTS Program Manager.
The integration of Xythos technology within the DCTS will help improve the collaborative capabilities of DoD agencies, Combatant Commands, and military services through enhanced ease of use, reliability and scalability. Xythos' open standards-based architecture is consistent with DISA's efforts to migrate the DCTS from a Windows-only design to a 100% web-enabled solution, compatible with any operating environment. As a result of this J2EE compliant design, Xythos was selected to upgrade the document and file management functions in previous versions of the DCTS.
"The protection of our national interests demands flexible and collaborative information management tools," said Ed Miller, CEO of Xythos Software. "The U.S. Defense Department's selection of Xythos illustrates the importance of technology which can be easily integrated within a standards compatible environment for enhancing operational and tactical capabilities of the DoD and intelligence communities."
With potentially thousands of concurrent users at hundreds of worldwide sites, the Department of Defense requires highly reliable, secure collaboration tools that enable effective communication. Xythos technology combined with other components of the DCTS permits DoD employees to safely access and share the information they need from within a common environment using virtually any web-enabled device. As a result, the new DCTS is expected to facilitate more accurate and timely decision making and improved accessibility to the wide variety of users eligible to use this new solution.
Xythos' Internet standards-based solutions currently support a variety of collaborative applications within government agencies including NASA, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Joint Forces Command, U.S. Navy and other departments of the federal government. Xythos Software develops simple document and file management software, designed to reduce the cost and improve the security of managing and sharing enterprise information. In addition to addressing the document and file management needs of enterprise customers, Xythos technology has become the integrated WebDAV solution of choice for a wide range of software developers including, Blackboard, Intalio and the SAS Institute.
