U.S. Joint Forces Command Implements Xythos for Collaborative Information Sharing Experiment Between Coalition Nations

San Francisco, CA, March 23, 2004 - Xythos Software, the leading developer of simple document and file management software, today announced that the U.S. Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM) Joint Experimentation Directorate implemented Xythos' WebFile Server (WFS) as part of its Multinational Experiment 3 which executed in February 2004. The three-week Effects-Based Planning experiment relied heavily upon a Collaborative Information Environment (CIE) built upon a global network and web-based technologies to link participants from 6 distributed nations and NATO. The experiment aimed to capitalize on web technologies and collaboration to facilitate the rapid and comprehensive sharing and processing of data to bring clarity to coalition planning operations.

Event planners chose Xythos WFS as the content management solution in Multinational Experiment 3 (MNE3) to handle the CIE's Document and File Management needs. Although features, ease of use, and costs were considerations, Xythos was selected for its standards-based approach because it made coalition interoperability easier to achieve. The WebFile Server's seamless support for Microsoft Office 2000 and Microsoft Web Folders, combined with a scalable collaboration application, created a rich information-sharing environment. This environment enabled participants to collectively author, publish and manage documents efficiently over a distributed worldwide network using a WebDAV-enabled operating system like Windows 2000.

"We're witnessing a growing demand for standards-based solutions that easily integrate with existing US government applications as well as those used by our allies," said Ed Miller, CEO of Xythos. "The cost advantage of this approach is obvious, but we're learning that the ease of integration and interoperability with any client system and server environment is equally valuable," he added.

Xythos WFS successfully enabled the global participants to access and manage content within a highly secure environment. Xythos Internet standards-based solutions currently support a variety of collaborative applications within NASA and departments of the federal government.

This Xythos announcement has been approved by the U.S. Joint Forces Command.
