XYTHOS GAINS LEADERSHIP IN HIGHER ED WITH OVER 1.5 MILLION USERS
Prestigious Customers Featured at Educause 2006
San Francisco, CA October 3, 2006 – Xythos Software, a leading developer of Basic Content Services solutions, today announced that it has licensed its products to over 1.5 million users at colleges and universities around the world. Xythos’ latest additions include Azabu University, Brigham Young University Hawaii, Indiana State University, Loyola Marymount University, MIT Lincoln Labs, University of Minnesota and Tokyo National College of Technology.
A growing number of these Xythos customers cite increased focus on research as a key driver for their selection of Xythos products. Grant funded research programs have helped universities offset declines in federal education funding, but often require improved tools to help them work together more effectively with other institutions and protect shared data. Schools including Baylor University, Loyola Marymount University and the University of Minnesota have identified Xythos as a key part of their plans to expand research programs and help improve their ability to compete for grant funding.
‘Baylor 2012’ is a ten-year initiative intended to support the university’s expanded research objectives and a good example of how schools are putting Xythos to work. “We had requests from faculty to do secure file sharing. We didn’t want to use FTP or to open up Windows sharing outside our firewall, as protecting content was critical,” explained Mike Hutcheson, Systems Manager in Baylor’s Electronic Library. “Xythos provides a way for non-Baylor faculty to access the information we want to share”.
Several Xythos customers will also be presenting at Educause 2006 in Dallas, TX beginning October 9, 2006. Pepperdine University, the University of Memphis, and the University of San Francisco will host a panel exploring how Xythos technology is being used to address academic and administrative collaboration requirements across their campuses.
“Educause has helped play an important role in establishing Xythos as a recognized leader in content management solutions for the higher education market,” commented Jim Till, chief marketing officer at Xythos. “Institutions began talking about our technology at Educause forums in the beginning of the decade and we quickly recognized the importance of supporting the organization in every way that we could.”
