Loyola Marymount Upgrades Portal with Xythos

Integrated file collaboration increases Luminis utilization and improves content security

San Francisco, CA – September 11, 2006, Xythos Software, a leading developer of Basic Content Services solutions, announced the selection of its Digital Locker Suite software by Loyola Marymount University. The Xythos solution was chosen to help the university improve internal and external content collaboration within its Luminis™ enterprise portal environment. Over 8,000 undergraduate and graduate students, as well hundreds of faculty and staff will now have secure access to the Xythos-based service (named LionShare) from both on and off campus.

Xythos will also help support the university’s strategic initiative to increase its focus on research. The Xythos Digital Locker provides web-based tools for securely sharing research related materials between different organizations linked together by public networks, like the Internet. Xythos ‘tickets’ and file links features allow users to avoid unsafe email attachments and easily track content for compliance purposes, enabling different universities and external organizations to more securely conduct research projects together. “Xythos’ single sign-on integration with the Luminis portal ensures that students, faculty and staff can securely access and share content from anywhere, helping improve productivity and increasing campus-wide collaboration,” said Erin Griffin, Vice President for Information Technology at Loyola Marymount University.

Integrating content management within enterprise portals such as SCT Luminis enables academic institutions to migrate functions such as enterprise storage, collaboration and even application delivery to a service oriented architecture or SOA. In turn, this helps them to better serve the needs of diverse user communities. Schools including Northeastern University and the University of San Francisco have begun to employ role-based delivery of content collaboration services through their portals - citing improved content security and reduced operating costs as benefits of Luminis and Xythos integration. “As the complexity of projects have increased, improving inter-organization collaboration has become a greater requirement for successful research programs,“ observed Ed Miller, CEO of Xythos. “Xythos’ open standards-based architecture was designed to simplify application integration, so that institutions like Loyola can safely pursue their research objectives.”

Xythos also announced that Loyola Marymount University Vice President for Information Technology, Erin Griffin will review the development of LionShare and discuss the universities plans for using this innovative new service in an upcoming web seminar. The seminar (available to academic institutions only) will take place on Thursday, September 14, 2006 beginning at 11 a.m. Pacific Time (2 p.m. Eastern Time). Registration is available at http://www.xythos.com/promotions/luminis.html .
