Software Design Engineer
Description
Xythos Software is looking for qualified candidates to join our R&D organization to lead the interface and user experience design of the next generation of Xythos products. As a member of the R&D team, you will get to apply your design skills and domain knowledge to transform requirements, taken from both Product Management and direct customer contact, into innovative designs for product functionality. You will work with multiple engineering and QA teams to drive your designs through implementation to testing and delivery, which will meet the needs of both end-users and the developer community.
As a Software Design Engineer at Xythos, you will:
- Work with Product Management to understand and prioritize business requirements and to build a coherent product design based upon those requirements
- Produce and maintain design documents and design specifications for new products and enhancements to existing features
- Design user interfaces that meet the needs of both non-technical end users and advanced users who require more flexibility and robustness in product capabilities
- Develop high-level and/or detailed storyboards, mockups and prototypes to
effectively communicate interaction and design ideas - Help to establish performance targets for various features within the product
- Communicate designs to the PM, Engineering, QA, and Product Documentation teams, and obtain sign-off for the designs from project stakeholders
- Work with the engineering staff to translate your functional and interface designs into technical designs that can be implemented by the teams
- Establish and continually improve design processes within the R&D organization
Note: You must reside in the San Francisco Bay Area to be considered for this position. Relocation assistance is not provided.
Qualifications
An ideal candidate will have:
- 5+ years of demonstrated software design experience
- A mastery of web interface standards and in-depth knowledge of user interface design principles
- Knowledge of formal design methodologies and applications to facilitate good design processes
- An understanding of and experience with the SDLC in a dynamic environment
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Knowledge of enterprise business applications is desirable, and knowledge of document or content management systems is a plus.
Academic
The position requires a B.S. in Computer Science (or a related field), or equivalent industry experience.
